TWO VERSIONS - The first earmarked for July 1973, typed on a electric golf ball typewriter. The Left Centre, in Queen Victoria Rd., also had an offset Litho donated by E. P. Thompson who wrote
then lecturer at Warwick University. The magazine wasn't linked to the Left Centre but printing was low cost! After the second mag was put together - Bo (John Bargent) left manage Coventry's top Jazz Rock group Khayyam and went on their European tour. Bo financed Hobo, so the second issue was abandoned. By August Babs Wainwright came to the rescue and printed an updated version on a duplicator, courtesy of her boss! A loss of print quality the mag was out for August - hence the second editorial here. Noticeable developments - Lynn Greenwood did a great article on us for the Coventry Evening Telegraph. Pete Waterman (who ran The Soul Hole (imported selling rare imported records above Virgin Records) contributed a Soul Chart to the magazine. In later issues he supported us with ads and a Soul article which you'll find on this blog). There was a new poetry section, review section and small ads.
Issue Two 2 (Unpublished version July 1973)
Copies of Hobo can be obtained free of charge from Virgin Records, I Am, The Sound Centre, The Left centre and various music and record shops and the central library. Not to mention the merry men and women from Hobo will distributing them here, there, near and afar.
As always, we’re interested in any articles you have written, poems, news, comments, things going on, things you’d like to see going on. Help of any kind you can offer, write or see us, don’t be shy, the worst we can say is ‘no’ which is doubtful!
Please pass copies around, show and tell your friends, help support our raffles and concerts if you can so that we can continue and improve the mag and facilities in Coventry and help the people trying to get things together in Cov.
Please return the beer glasses to the pubs when used outside as policemen keeping an all night vigil is a drag and for god’s sake don’t throw them, there are other ways using up energy and killing time! Have a sing song, anything but try to keep things peaceful otherwise it’s going to be useless trying to get thru to anyone to aid us to get anything constructive done. The police funds are low, so keep cool and keep clean!

Intro to Issue Two (Also from the Unpublished version)
Hello Again,
For those who haven’t seen the first issue, I’ll explain briefly the purpose of this monthly mag.
It is designed to help promote and revitalise the music/art scene in Coventry and is distributed free. It is (or should be) sponsored by ads. So far we have had little help and consequently our pockets bear big holes, so groups, discos, shops please help as we don’t wish to have to charge for this mag, which is no-profit making. In fact we just want it to support itself. At the moment it is completely the reverse. Anyway details of ad rates later on in this issue.
ISSUE TWO ( PUBLISHED VERSION AUGUST 1973)
Hello,
Hobo is back on the road after lapsing a month due to printing difficulties and many other hassles. Out of necessity a small fee (2p) is being charged for the mag. (Money certainly doesn’t grow on trees!).
Briefly the aims of the mag are to supply the the musicians / poets / artists of Coventry and district with a music and arts mag that everyone can afford. It aims to give news / info / articles of interest/ classifieds / and a central point for inspiring and promoting activities in the city.
We’re interested in in any articles / poems / news / views / info / ideas / criticisms or any help you can offer. Please don’t be shy about responding as it’s your response that we’re relying on. This is the framework, it’s your ideas that will clothe it. We hold no prejudice musically and are open to any form of music or art. Though the underdog (ground) activities are given priority. Leastways we do our best.
